Seven Sister Championships

The Smith cross-country team traveled to Wellesley College last weekend to contest the 31st running of the Seven Sisters Cross-Country Championships, held in Elm Bank Reservation in Wellesley. The 5k event featured 94 runners from Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Smtih, Vassar and Wellesley Colleges and guest St. Catherine University (Barnard athletes compete for Columbia University and Radcliffe College merged with Harvard in 1999).

Danielle Opatovsky's 3rd place finish was Smith's top performance of the day. Her time of 18:13 was just 1-second out of second place! Fellow first-year Katie Ferrall ran 18:51 to place 12th overall. Both Danielle and Katie's sub 19-minute performances were nearly matched by teammate Kylee Drugan-Eppich's impressive 19:03 15th placing. Micaela Young crossed the tape in 20:02 for 29th and Victoria Dunch in 20:27 for 34th. Smith's displacers were Cynthia Masai and Katie Paulson-Smith, running 20:34 and 20:38 respectively.

Overall, the team placed 4th by bettering both Bryn Mawr and Mount Holyoke Colleges. Host Wellesley won the meet with Vassar College placing second. Full results can be found at:

Following the conclusion of the meet the athletes and coaches enjoyed a semi-formal luncheon held on the Wellesley campus. Awards were presented to the All-Seven-Sisters-Team (top 10 finishers), which included Danielle Opatovsky. It can be said that the entire team enjoyed this fun and traditional meet. Smith will next host the NEWMAC Cross-Country Championships in two weeks!
